Key points of the federal tax credit plan:

• The credit applies to improvements made to existing homes. New homes are not eligible under this program.

• The new program has been updated to include the total installation cost (not just the water heater cost). This applies to labor and materials necessary to install a tankless water heater.
• The $1500 tax credit is an aggregate amount, spread over 2 years (2009 & 2010).
